Ratlam was one of the first commercial cities established in Central India.
Ratlam got its name from the name of the local Bhil king Ratna Bhil. According to the Rajasthan Jatiyon Ki Khoj book, the last Bhil king of Ratlam was Jassa Bhil. After him, Ratan Singh captured Ratlam with the help of the Mughals, Since the relations between the Rajputs of Ratlam and the Mughals were good from the beginning, the Mughals used to come to Ratlam. In the eighteenth century, the Bhils again established their rule in Ratlam. During that time, a Mughal chief came to Ratlam , then the Bhil chief fed him Bhildi sev, this Bhildi sev is today world famous as Ratlami Sev.
